Ninety-Year-Old Woman Chases Down, Apprehends Mugger With Help of Good Samaritan

When he saw 90-year-old lady being knocked to the ground outside a convenience store by an mugger who ran away, Robb Revelli sprang into action.

Revelli, 36, helped the woman grab her credit cards that fell during the attack, then asked if she wanted to go to the hospital or chase the attacker.

"If she was down, I was down to go get him," he said, "and we did."

The pair caught up to the attacker, 27-year-old Damarea Johnson.

"[I] caught up to him and put him in a headlock, and he started throwing money," Revelli (pictured), a former rugby player, told the Oakland Tribune.

"He kept fighting the whole time. I had scratches on my face."

As Revelli held the man down, the woman called 911 to report the crime and to praise her good Samaritan rescuer. "He's an excellent, wonderful fellow," the woman, who has asked that her identity not be released, told police on the call.

"I hope God protects him and blesses him for the rest of his life."

Islamist Morsi says will be leader for all Egyptians

Egypt's Mohamed Morsi, the first Islamist to be elected president of the Arab world's most populous nation, said Sunday he will be a leader "for all Egyptians" and called for national unity after a polarising race.

Morsi, the country's first elected leader since a popular uprising ousted president Hosni Mubarak, won 51.73 percent of the vote against ex-premier Ahmed Shafiq.

"I will be a president for all Egyptians," Morsi said just hours after he was declared the winner.

"I call on you, great people of Egypt ... to strengthen our national unity," he said, adding that national unity "is the only way out of these difficult times".

Morsi, who resigned from the Muslim Brotherhood to take the top job, thanked the "martyrs" of the uprising for the victory and stressed that "the revolution continues".

The 60-year-old engineer also vowed to honour international treaties.

"We will preserve all international treaties and charters ... we come in peace," Morsi said.

Egypt was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel, in 1979.

The election comes after 18 months of a tumultuous military-led transition from Mubarak's rule, marked by political upheaval and bloodshed.

"The winner of the election for Egyptian president on June 16-17 is Mohamed Morsi Eissa al-Ayat," said the head of the electoral commission, Faruq Sultan earlier.

The announcement saw hundreds of thousands of Morsi supporters erupt in celebration in Cairo's Tahrir Square, waving flags and posters of the Islamist leader, who was jailed during the uprising that overthrew Mubarak early last year.

"God is greatest" and "down with military rule" they chanted, as fireworks went off over the square.

Across Cairo, cars sounded their horns and chants of "Morsi, Morsi" were heard.

Losing candidate Shafiq, who was widely perceived as the military's candidate, joined the country's military ruler Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi in congratulating Morsi.

"General Ahmed Shafiq sent a message to Mohamed Morsi congratulating him on his victory," the official MENA news agency reported. Earlier state television said Tantawi had congratulated Morsi.

Morsi won with 13,230,131 votes against Shafiq's 12,347,380, Sultan said. The election, in which more than 50 million voters were eligible to cast their ballot, saw a 51.8 percent turnout.

Morsi resigned from his posts in the Muslim Brotherhood and its Freedom and Justice Party, which he headed, after he was declared the winner, the Brotherhood announced.

And the interim head of the Coptic Church, many of whose faithful have feared the rise of Islamists, also congratulated Morsi.

Shafiq supporters who had gathered to hear the result with his campaign team in the suburbs of Cairo were devastated by the result.

Some women screamed and others cried as several men held their heads between their hands in despair.

"It's a very sad day for Egypt. I don't think Morsi is the winner. I'm very sad that Egypt will be represented by this man and this group," Shafiq supporter Maged told AFP.

The capital was tense before the announcement, with the city's notoriously busy streets deserted and shops and schools closed.

Extra troops and police were deployed as military helicopters flew overhead.

The road to parliament was closed to traffic, and security was tightened around vital establishments as Egyptians waited nervously for the result.

The election has polarised the nation, dividing those who feared a return to the old regime under Shafiq from others who wanted to keep religion out of politics and who fear the Brotherhood would stifle personal freedoms.

Shafiq ran on a strong law-and-order platform, pledging to restore security and stability. He is himself a retired general, but as a Mubarak-era minister he is reviled by the activists who spearheaded the 2011 revolt.

President-elect Morsi was the Islamists' fallback representative after their deputy leader Khairat El-Shater was disqualified.

In campaigning he sought to allay the fears of secular groups and the sizeable Coptic Christian minority by promising a diverse and inclusive political system.

Both Morsi and Shafiq had claimed victory in the election for a successor to Mubarak, and tensions heightened after the electoral commission delayed announcing the official outcome.

The delay in announcing the result of the June 16-17 run-off, initially scheduled for Thursday, had raised suspicions that the outcome of the election was being negotiated rather than counted.

On Friday, the SCAF warned it would deal "with utmost firmness and strength" with any attempts to harm public interests.

The Brotherhood warned against tampering with the election results, but also said it had no intention of instigating violence.

It has rejected a constitutional declaration by the military that strips away any gains made by the Islamist group since the popular uprising which forced Mubarak to stand down in February last year.

The document dissolves the Islamist-led parliament and gives the army a broad say in government policy and control over the new constitution. It was adopted just days after a justice ministry decree granted the army powers of arrest.

I was lucky to have that safety net as I moved into full time real estate, but you seem to be very focused on saving and living cheaply, which will go a long way towards achieving your end goals. I assume your husband will continue to work at a job, which will also help, I don't recommend his quitting his job while you are trying to do this.

Sony set to buy 10 per cent share in Olympus

Reports from Japan claim that Sony will invest heavily in rival camera manufacturer Olympus.

The reputable Nikkei news source claims that Sony will snap up a ten per cent share in the company for ?397m ($620m).

This would make Sony the single largest shareholder at Olympus, which is still reeling from last year's accounting scandal, when it failed to declare investment losses and overstated profits.

The report suggests that Olympus could take advantage of Sony's market share in the imaging sector to lower its production costs and end two years of losses.

The agreement is also likely to see Sony take a hand in Olympus' profitable manufacturing of medical supplies.

The company currently owns around 70 per cent of the endoscope market, with Sony's sensor-developing expertise expected to cement that share.

An agreement is expected within next month, according to Nikkei.

Breivik calls for acquittal as terror trial ends

OSLO, Norway (AP) ? The trial of Anders Behring Breivik ended Friday with the confessed mass killer demanding to be set free and vowing that history would exonerate him for a bomb-and-gun rampage that killed 77 people.

The self-styled anti-Muslim militant got the final word in the 10-week proceedings, but it's unclear whether it helped the main point of his defense: trying to prove that he is sane.

In a rambling statement, Breivik lashed out at everything he finds wrong with the world, from non-ethnic Norwegians representing the country in the Eurovision Song Contest to the sexually liberated lifestyle of the characters in the American TV show "Sex and the City."

Incorporating current events into his statement, he claimed that fellow right-wing extremists were behind a small amount of explosives found outside a Swedish nuclear plant this week. Swedish police spokesman Tommy Nyman said he had no comment, "especially not if he says it."

While some of Breivik's comments prompted laughter in the Oslo court, a serious atmosphere returned when he reiterated his motive for bombing the Norwegian capital's government headquarters, killing eight, and hunting down teenagers at the Labor Party's youth camp. Sixty-nine people were dead and dozens more injured in one of the worst peacetime shooting massacres by a single gunman.

"History shows that you have to commit a small barbarism to prevent a bigger barbarism," the 33-year-old Norwegian said.

"The attacks on July 22 were preventive attacks to defend the indigenous Norwegian people," he said. "I therefore demand to be acquitted."

Breivik claims the governing Labor Party has betrayed the country by accepting Muslim immigrants and must be stopped before turning Norway into what he called a "multiculturalist hell."

Earlier Friday, defense lawyer Geir Lippestad had tried to prove his client is sane ? the key issue to be resolved in the trial since Breivik admits the attacks.

Lippestad also formally entered a plea for acquittal, but it was made out of principle, without any realistic chance of success.

Also Friday, relatives of some of those killed tried to put their loss in words. Kirsti Loevlie, whose 30-year-old daughter Hanne was killed by the bomb, moved the court room to tears when she described the shock of finding out her daughter was dead, the grief of cleaning out her room and the first Christmas without her.

Still, Loevlie said she felt a need to attend the trial, seeing Breivik in a position where he couldn't hurt anyone anymore.

"I am not going to be afraid of this man," Loevlie said. "I decided I would go to court. I felt I owed it to Hanne."

The court room burst out in applause and audible sobs as she finished her statement.

Breivik remained motionless, his face blank.

Lippestad tried to prove to the court that Breivik's claims of being a resistance fighter in a struggle to protect Norway and Europe from being colonized by Muslims are not delusional, but part of a political view shared by other right-wing extremists.

"He realized that it is wrong to kill but he chose to kill. That's what terrorists do," Lippestad said. "The ends justify the means. You don't understand this if you don't understand the culture of right-wing extremists."

When Breivik talks about a civil war he's not fantasizing about tanks and soldiers in the forest, but referring to a low-intensity struggle he believes will last for 60 years, Lippestad said.

"None of us know what Europe will look like in 60 years," Lippestad said. "Who would have thought 10 years ago that a right-wing extremist party in Greece would get 10 percent in the election now?"

Two teams of psychiatrists reached opposite conclusions about Breivik's mental health. The first team diagnosed him with "paranoid schizophrenia," a serious mental illness. The second team found him legally sane, saying he suffers from a dissocial and narcissistic personality disorder, but is not psychotic.

Prosecutors on Thursday called for an insanity ruling, saying there was enough doubt about Breivik's mental state to preclude a prison sentence.

The five-judge panel will announce its ruling on Aug. 24, chief judge Wenche Elisabeth Arntzen said.

If deemed mentally competent, Breivik would likely be given Norway's maximum prison term of 21 years. A sentence can be extended beyond that if a prisoner is considered a menace to society. If declared insane, he would be committed to a mental institution for as long as he's considered sick and dangerous to others. Prosecutors suggested Thursday that could mean he would be held for the rest of his life.

Lippestad's otherwise focused statement ended on a confusing note when he asked the court for the most lenient possible prison sentence for his client. After being corrected by Breivik, Lippestad said the defense asks for an acquittal or a lenient sentence, but primarily wants the court to reject the insanity claim.

theGrio: Why does rap fetishize white women?

By the time I was 11 years old my next-door neighbor, who was a few years older than me, had given me Nas? 1996 It Was Written album. Knowing that the explicit content would send my mom in a fury if she found it, I insisted she keep it, but she refused to take it back. Frightened, I sneaked it into our two bedroom apartment to add to the rest of my mostly R&B music collection. When I eventually popped it in to my CD player, I was in awe. It was that moment I fell in love with Nas? music ? and more in love with hip-hop.?That was 16 years ago.

For so many in my generation, hip-hop has served as the backdrop to our childhoods. Its appeal was not only the heart-pounding thump of the beats, or the coolness of the women and men rapping. Finally it seemed like someone was telling our story. Rap music spoke our language in a way nothing else did. It was the true essence of giving the voiceless a voice.

Since then, feminism has changed my relationship with my beloved hip-hop. As much as I love it, I hate how it treats women. Hip-hop and black women have an abusive relationship in a sense. Its lyrics advocate violence and sexual assault against women; and it often reduces us to gold-digging ?hoes? unworthy of respect.

As I plow through Tom Burrell?s book,?Brainwashed: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority, I think about how the black inferiority complex (BIC) plays out in pop culture and music, particularly rap.

One of the things that has become more prevalent in hip-hop is the adoration of white women, juxtaposed with its seeming hatred of black women in rap lyrics. Historically, white women had been off-limits for centuries ? black men were literally lynched; killed for allegedly whistling at white women. Therefore, snagging a white woman was the ultimate slap in the oppressors? face ? ?a ?look, I?ve made it and I have one of your women!? statement of sorts. Now, instead of rappers, en masse, toting white women on their arms, they parade them on wax.

Kanye West, whose music I happen to love dearly, has had a longtime obsession with the white aesthetic. His music tells the story better than I could. Visually, it has played out in his videos for songs like ?Runaway? and ?Monster.? ?Why did all the ballerinas in ?Runaway? have to be white? ?In ?Monster? we see the decapitated heads of white women hanging from ropes and rocking gold teeth. Most telling of his white girl fantasies was his cover art to MBDTF. But Kanye is far from alone in this line of thinking.

Ten Week-Old Llustre Is Acquired by Fab.com After A Blistering European Roll-Up

Online design sales site Fab.com has acquired Llustre, a?similar but much smaller UK design store. The latter company?was billed as a "trusted guide" to discovering good design, combined with flash-based sales (up to 70% off the recommended retail price). It now becomes Fab UK. The company was launched in November of 2011, but it only launched ten weeks ago -- so it's one of the fastest UK exits in recent history. Sources say the deal took less than a month to complete. Although terms were undisclosed we understand this was an all share deal. The team of twenty-four now joins Fab.

CWS: Arkansas snaps S.C.'s NCAA tourney streak

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Ryne Stanek and Barrett Astin combined on a four-hitter and Arkansas beat South Carolina 2-1 at the College World Series on Monday night, ending the Gamecocks' NCAA tournament record winning streak at 22 games.

The Gamecocks (46-18) will have to beat Kent State on Wednesday to keep alive their hopes of winning a third straight national title.

The Razorbacks (46-20) earned two days off and need one more win to go to the best-of-three finals.

"It's almost unimaginable that you could win 22 games in a row in the postseason. It's incredible,'' Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said. "Hats off to coach (Ray) Tanner and his group. They've done a tremendous job. But our guys just came out and did what they do - play hard and throw a lot of strikes.''

Matt Vinson's RBI single in the fourth inning gave Arkansas a 2-0 lead. Evan Marzilli's two-out triple pulled the Gamecocks within a run in the fifth, but they got just one hit the rest of the way.

Stanek (8-4) allowed three hits and turned the game over in the seventh inning to Astin, who earned his 11th save.

South Carolina's Colby Holmes (7-2) allowed two runs on four hits in 3 2-3 innings. Tyler Webb shut down Arkansas on two hits over a season-high 5 1-3 innings, but his teammates couldn't get much going against the hottest pitching staff in the nation.

Arkansas pitchers have allowed just two runs over their last 32 1-3 innings. The Hogs have an ERA of 1.75 in eight NCAA tournament games.

The Razorbacks have won their first two games at the CWS for the first time since their initial appearance in Omaha in 1979. They've been here six times since.

South Carolina came from behind to win 11 times during the 22-game streak that started at the 2010 CWS.

"It was a great run,'' Tanner said. "These guys, some are still here, and the guys that had come before, it's one of those things that you don't know if it could happen or if it will ever happen again. It's been a pretty good run. I'm proud of what these guys did and how they battled. But Arkansas tonight was a better team.''

The Gamecocks won two out of three against Arkansas during the regular season, but Stanek and Astin were too much for them to overcome Monday.

The Hogs had only six hits after banging out 10 in an 8-1 win over Kent State on Saturday.

They opened the scoring in the first on Dominic Ficociello's double. Their winning run came home in the fourth. Holmes walked Brian Anderson leading off, and he scored on a single by Vinson, who was hitting .209 out of the No. 8 hole.

Vinson also had a two-run double in Saturday's win over Kent State to end a 4-for-26 slump.

"It's a great feeling,'' Vinson said. "I'm trying to help my team out the best I can. I keep doing my best. If there's a guy in scoring position, I'm going to try to get him in any way I can. So I just happened to get a hit in a couple of games.''

South Carolina went three up, three down three of the last four innings.

'The Killing' Season Finale: What We Learned

The identity of Rosie Larsen's killer(s) wasn't the only revelation on the finale of AMC's critically maligned detective series.

On June 17, 2012, the unthinkable happened: After two seasons filled with enough whodunit headaches to scare away even the most patient of viewers, "The Killing" finally unmasked its killer — or killers, rather.

The AMC detective series' season-two finale finally resolved the mystery that plagued committed fans for 26 long episodes. I was not one of those fans. I, like many of you, bailed on "The Killing" very early on in season one. Also like many of you, I was stunned to learn that the season-one finale didn't answer the question of who killed Rosie Larsen; viewers would have to wait until the end of season two for that particular case to close, extending the longest episode of "Law & Order: SVU" by an additional marathon. Yikes.

A season and change since my last viewing of the series, I returned to "The Killing" for Sunday night's finale to see if the series would renege on its promise of answers. It did not: Answers were provided. Whether or not they were satisfactory to longtime fans is beyond me, though even having been gone since the show's earliest episodes, I can't say I was shocked by where things landed.

That's not to say there weren't some surprises. In fact, I learned 10 very interesting tidbits over the course of the "Killing" season finale, and here they are.

1. Billy Campbell was not the killer. This runs counter to everything I know about Billy Campbell. (See: "Enough.")

2. Billy Campbell's campaign adviser was the killer. Well, one of them, at least. Either way, of course it was one of the folks involved in the Richmond campaign who was ultimately (at least partially) responsible for Rosie's death. The only shocker to me is that it wasn't Kristin Lehman's Gwen who killed the girl; that actress exudes Lady Macbeth like whoa. (See: "The Way of the Gun.")

3. Joel Kinnaman will be a great RoboCop. His Detective Holder's stone-cold, shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later standoff against freshly revealed killer Jamie "It Was An Accident!" Wright was classic cyborg police justice.

4. There's no reason Duck Phillips shouldn't have been on season five of "Mad Men." Actor Mark Moses was apparently all over "The Killing" season two as Lieutenant Erik Carlson; seeing that he was still in AMC's very good graces makes me furious that Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce's very own Phantom Pooper didn't make a single appearance this year.

5. It's always rainy in Seattle. Seriously, I know that the Emerald City is not the sunniest place to live, but really, it hasn't stopped raining since the pilot.

6. Michelle Forbes is awesome in everything. From "24" to "Battlestar Galactica" to "True Blood" and beyond, there's nothing this Emmy-nominated actress can't master — including grieving her daughter's tragic murder for 26 uninterrupted episodes, apparently.

7. It's always the sister's fault. Rosie's real killer was in the family the whole time. Jamie did the legwork, but Terry delivered the killing blow. Forbes' Mitch, true to the actress' nature, took the news like a champ. But it just goes to show that when in doubt, blame the sibling. You never have to look too far from the tree to spot the spoiled apple.

8. Step aside, P'Zones — there's a new sheriff in town. Pizza Hut is now touting the P'Zolo, a new sandwich-like concoction that boasts the threatening "See ya, subs!" as its tagline. No, there was no mention of P'Zolos on "The Killing," but you'll forgive me for being more absorbed by the commercials than the two-year plight of sleepy Sarah Linden.

9. Speaking of which, Linden's had enough of this sh--. When word came in over the wire that a new body had been found, Linden left Holder alone to go deal with the crime scene. It would seem that she is as sick of the Seattle homicide scene as everyone else.

10. Sad goodbyes are sad. Even I was moved by Rosie Larsen's inadvertent goodbye video, fantastically convenient as it was. Not enough to go back and visit the previous 25 episodes, mind you, but enough to realize that "The Killing" must have meant something to someone, somewhere.
