Venture capital comes in different forms and at different costs. Before running off to grab the necessary millions to launch the next Apple or IBM, the entrepreneur must fashion an organized plan of attack. As the company prepares to launch its strategy and build a management team, conventional forms of financing are nearly impossible to obtain. The entrepreneur has five basic options in pursuing venture capital and each option comes with different specifications.

? Commercial Banks ? Entrepreneurs with an existing business, a solid balance sheet and several years of verified profit and loss statements and with a deposit relationship with the lender can apply to a commercial bank for capital. The entrepreneur is usually asked to guarantee the loan with individual assets as collateral. Commercial banks rarely participate in launching a new business and the amount of the entrepreneur?s loan will be a percentage of the entrepreneur?s collateral. The new operation will also need to pay interest, which money could be better used to develop the business. When working with today?s commercial lenders, a high degree of transparency is needed. In a commercial loan, the borrower assumes all the risk.

? Investment Banking Firms ? Investment bankers are also called Vulture Capitalists. Often investment bankers only work in specific industries. If the entrepreneur needs funds for expansion of a working business in one of those industries, the investment banker may consider an application for funding.

The investment banker looks for businesses with solid earnings in an industry with growth potential and a management team they like. Already with exposure in an industry, investment bankers can be extremely beneficial for a growing operation.

When applying to investment bankers, the entrepreneur will need fairly precise projections and, of course, accurate financial records. Investment bankers are primarily interested in existing operations that seek a business partner and the vulture must always see a viable exit strategy.

? Venture Capital Groups ? Venture Capital Groups are high wealth investors who have determined to take certain risks. These groups are looking for the next great product, service and miracle concept. The entrepreneur with a new concept will be required to post equity in the new company as collateral, and it could be a significant amount of equity.

The entrepreneur will be forced to give up equity but will gain the funds needed to launch and a partner with proven moneymaking success. Venture Capitalists usually have specialist for each step of the company?s growth, beginning with the Early Stage and advancing to the exciting Start-up Stage.

When approaching a venture capitalist, the entrepreneur must be prepared. You may have 20 minutes to make a compelling first impression. Know your facts, have supporting projections, present your management team?s credentials and explain why there will be demand for your product.

? Angels and Sophisticated Private Investors ? Angels and private investors are out there. Sometimes they are under the same roof. These participants may offer enough funding for the early stage or for expansion, but they are rarely in for the long haul. Angels and investors may require a loan structure or may want equity. Be careful because doing business with friends has destroyed many a friendship.

CAIRO (AP) ? Egyptian presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq paid tribute Saturday to the "glorious revolution" that toppled Hosni Mubarak, a dramatic turn-around for the former regime official who fought his way into the runoff elections by appealing to public disenchantment with last year's uprising.

Shafiq, the last prime minister to serve under Mubarak, vowed there would be no "recreation of the old regime" as he prepared to face off against Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in a runoff on June 16-17.

"I am fed up with being labeled 'old regime,'" Shafiq told a news conference in his campaign headquarters. "This talk is no longer valid after seven million people voted for me." When pressed on the issue, he said: "All Egyptians are part of the old regime. Why do you keep saying the same thing over and over again?"

Shafiq and Morsi were the top vote-getters after a two-day election on Wednesday and Thursday which none of the 13 candidates could win outright. Now, both must appeal to the roughly 50 percent of voters who cast ballots for someone else.

Shafiq appeared to use the news conference to try and cast off his image as an anti-revolution candidate who spoke disparagingly about the youth groups that engineered the anti-Mubarak uprising, reaching out to all segments of society in a bid to rally voters who favored his rivals during the first-round.

A former air force commander and a personal friend of Mubarak's, Shafiq was booted out of office by a wave of street protests shortly after Mubarak stepped down on Feb. 11, 2011.

The 15 months since Mubarak's ouster have seen a surge in crime, a faltering economy and seemingly endless street protests, work stoppages and sit-ins. The disorder has fed disenchantment with the revolutionary groups, and may have played to Shafiq's advanatge.

However, ex-officer Shafiq is also associated with Egypt's military leadership. The generals who took over from Mubarak, say critics, have mismanaged the transitional period and failed to reform corrupt institutions or to provide security.

Furthermore, they are blamed for the death of more than a hundred protesters, torturing detainees and trying before military tribunals at least 12,000 civilians.

"I pledge to every Egyptian that there will be no turning back and no recreation of the old regime," said Shafiq, 70. "Egypt has changed and there will be no turning back the clock. We have had a glorious revolution. I pay tribute to this glorious revolution and pledge to be faithful to its call for justice and freedom."

Shafiq also tried to enlist the support of youth groups, singling out the large associations of soccer fans known as "ultras" and April 6, both of which played a key role in the uprising.

His outreach was swiftly rejected by April 6, whose spokesman Ahmed Maher told a news conference that his group will never talk to the former prime minister, whom it considers as a pillar of the Mubarak regime.

He paid special tribute to Hamdeen Sabahi, a socialist and a champion of the poor who finished in third place. He held out the possibility of naming him as his deputy if elected president.

Morsi's Brotherhood, meanwhile, has called for a meeting of the nation's political forces to "deal with the challenges facing the nation" ? a thinly veiled attempt to enlist support for its candidate.

More than a year after protesters demanding democracy toppled Mubarak, the face-off between the Morsi and Shafiq looked like a throwback to his era ? a rivalry between a military-rooted strongman promising a firm hand to ensure stability and Islamists vowing to implement religious law.

The head-to-head match between them is the most polarized outcome possible from the first round, and will likely lead to a heated campaign. Each has die-hard supporters but is also loathed by significant sectors of the population.

The first round race turned out close. By Friday evening, counts from stations around the country reported by the state news agency gave Morsi 25.3 percent and Shafiq 24.9 percent with less than 100,000 votes difference.

A large chunk of the vote ? more than 40 percent ? went to candidates who were seen as more in the spirit of the uprising that toppled Mubarak, that is neither from the Brotherhood nor from the so-called "feloul," or "remnants" of the old autocratic regime that Shafiq is considered one of.

In particular, those votes went to leftist Hamdeen Sabahi, who narrowly came in third in a surprisingly strong showing of 21.5 percent, and a moderate Islamist who broke with the Brotherhood, Abdel-Moneim Abolfotoh.

Falls Church, Va.? McKenzie or White: who will be the next Wallaby coach?

The coaching battle of wits tonight in Canberra between the Reds? Ewen McKenzie and the Brumbies? Jake White will give an early indication as to which one will be Wallaby coach in 2014.

It?s a given that incumbent Robbie Deans will return to his home town Christchurch at the completion of his contract in 2013 to pursue his cherished ambition to coach the All Blacks.

So the replacement hunt has begun.

At the end of last season, when the Reds had captured their first Super title playing superb rugby, McKenzie was a laydown misere for the job.

Since then, the Reds have really struggled, and might not even make the play-offs for a chance to defend their title.

While South African Rugby World Cup winning coach White has taken the Brumbies in his first season from a basket-case franchise of internal bickering and destructive player-power into a highly-disciplined, enterprising, and entertaining championship contender.

So McKenzie has two mighty big reasons to win tonight ? keep his nose in front for the Wallaby job and stay in the Super Rugby fight with a sniff of defending the title.

Just a sniff, for a loss and it?s game, set, and match.

McKenzie has two big bonuses and a downside in his corner tonight.

The first bonus is no-nonsense referee Steve Walsh, who will give both sides a fair go, something the Reds haven?t received in most of their games so far this season.

The second is the Brumbies? 115kgs wrecking ball, No 8 Fotu Auelua, is injured and won?t play.

Skipper Ben Mowen moves from flanker to 8, and while he?s playing excellent traditional rugby, he isn?t a devastating destruction unit.

The downside?

History has a habit of repeating itself. The Brumbies have the mocka on the Reds, winning 16 of their 19 encounters: 84% is a stand-up start, worse still in Canberra, where the Brumbies have won nine out of 10, averaging a scoreline of 33-16.

Comprehensive.

To help offset that somewhat, the Reds beat the Brumbies 20-13 on Good Friday. That was the Reds? first win ever over the Brumbies at Suncorp. It makes a huge difference when the Reds play in front of their renowned uplifting sea of red.

But McKenzie hasn?t that invaluable support tonight. His tilt with White will be on ?foreign? soil. Advantage White.

This will arguably be the best head-to-head coaching clash of the tournament. It will certainly go a long way to deciding the Australian Conference winner, with an automatic berth into the play-offs.

And the Brumbies not only have history on their side, but the all-important eight-point buffer with five rounds to go.

Any coach would far prefer to be in White?s shoes than McKenzie?s.

But don?t ever sell McKenzie short. He was an internationally revered campaigner as a Wallaby prop with 51 caps, including the 1991 RWC. And he?s just as revered as a coach.

So there?s a lot at stake across the park, promising tonight will produce 80 minutes of prime rugby from the moment Steve Walsh whistles time on.

Audyssey Audio Dock Air

Last year brought us the first AirPlay speaker systems?speaker docks that stream audio wirelessly from Apple iOS products and some computers via a Wi-Fi signal. After the Editors' Choice Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air ($599.95, 4 stars) debuted Apple's integrated streaming audio technology, only a few offerings have actually been released. Joining the Zeppelin Air and the significantly less successful JBL On Air Wireless ($349.95, 2.5 stars) is the Audyssey Audio Dock Air, at $399.99 (direct). Deep bass lovers will enjoy the exaggerated low-end response of the Audyssey Dock; audiophiles will want to steer clear. Unfortunately, the dock suffers from some stream interruption issues that no one will enjoy, and this knocks its rating down a bit. An iOS update was supposed to fix these problems, but unfortunately they seem to still plague the dock.

Editors' Note (5/23/12): We retested the Audyssey to see if it's streaming problems would be solved with the latest version of iOS, and we encountered the same issues?despite seeing improvements on other speaker systems like the Klipsch Gallery G-17 Air. The rating remains the same.?

Design
Measuring 8.3 by 4.8 by 8.5 inches (HWD), the Audyssey Audio Dock ?resembles an upright square. Like most AirPlay docks, it has very few buttons and uses black felt to cover its drivers. It's almost as if Apple has specific design rules for AirPlay docks, so that they will all resemble a family of Apple-esque products. (If you detect sarcasm, it's because, in all likelihood, Apple is very much involved in the streamlined designs of all of these docks). The unadorned black felt speaker panels face in opposite directions, spreading the reach of the audio, for sure, but not necessarily increasing the width of the stereo field much, since both left and right channels originate from essentially the same spot once you're a foot or so away. That said, the opposite directions of the speakers can benefit from reflections off of walls in your room, and that can certainly have an effect on your perception of the stereo image, although it may not be one audio engineers will be pleased with?more on that in a bit. A matte black plastic band separates the two speaker panels. On the back end of the band, there's a connection for the included power supply, as well as a Pairing button (for initial setup) and a 3.5mm Aux input. The band's front side has a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the top panel houses a Volume control dial and two LEDs that indicate when the unit is powered up and when it is connected for AirPlay. The system ships with a 3.5mm audio cable for connecting devices to the Aux input.

Performance
Setting up the Audio Dock Air is not difficult, as the instructions are simple and laid out explicitly in the included manual. You will need a Wi-Fi connection, however, and a bit of patience, as the pairing process between devices, and the connection process to the Wi-Fi signal itself, can take a few minutes. Once complete, you are able to stream from any PC or Mac with a recent version of iTunes (beyond 10.1), and any iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch).

AirPlay's sound quality is actually pretty impressive, with strong bass performance. The Audio Air Dock only adds to the bass experience; Even at low-to-moderate volumes, one might say it sounds "thunderous." As you boost the volume louder and louder, however, the bass signal becomes more and more compressed. Why does Audyssey do this? Well, first off, it's a process often referred to as Digital Signal Processing (DSP), and Audyssey is not alone in employing it. Bowers & Wilkins has utilized some signal processing on its consumer line as well. The basic goal is to eliminate any distortion or possibility of blowing a speaker. Deep bass frequencies at high volumes are usually the culprit when speakers distort, so the signal processing basically limits the volume of the bass as you raise the system's overall volume. At maximum volume on Bowers & Wilkins' PC speaker set, the MM-1 ($499.95, 4 stars), this ends up sounding like some serious dynamic compression, where the range of transient sounds like drum hits are squashed lower to be roughly the same volume as everything else in the mix. You've heard this before when a loud song comes on the radio and suddenly the overall volume of the song seems to dip as the heavily distorted guitars kick in.

On the Audio Dock Air speakers, however, this processing is quite noticeable, primarily because at lower-to-mid volume settings, the bass is already so boosted, that when you raise the volume high, it sounds like you're listening to a different speaker system because the bass frequencies have been so dramatically cut to prevent distortion. The good news is, this system sounds excellent?for bass enthusiasts, at least?at moderate volumes. Even when it's not really that loud, it feels loud. The bad news is, when you blast it, the signal processing steals some of the bass thunder and squashes the overall signal pretty intensely. Simply put, if you're into deep bass and listening at moderate levels, this system won't disappoint you sonically. It never really distorts, even on deep bass tracks at maximum volume, but the processing is intense enough that it can sound as if it's about to distort?a common characteristic of signal limiting at its most extreme.

Because of the placement of the speakers at opposite sides of the dock, projecting in opposite directions, the stereo image is altered a bit in a way that casual listening may not suffer from, but one channel will often appear louder than the other. Simply put, it definitely helps fill the room with sound, but this is not how records are mixed.

Of course, as I mentioned earlier, I actually like the audio performance enough that it would have had a higher rating. Not every system needs to be made for audiophiles craving flat response?there's room enough in the world for those of you who really dig thumping bass. The Audio Dock Air is made with these listeners in mind, and it brings an extra bottom end to everything from hip hop and rock to even classical music, making the lower strings in John Adams' "The Chairman Dances" sound downright ominous and intense. But we have a different issue to deal with.

Tested on a home Wi-Fi network that regularly streams audio, via AirPlay, from a iPhone and a laptop to a stereo receiver with an AirPort express connected to it, the Audio Dock Air fared differently than the aforementioned setup. This is possibly because the AirPort Express uses 802.11n wireless signal, while Apple's AirPlay and the docks that have it built-in use 802.11g. Where the AirPort Express only seems to stutter when its sound source gets out of range?say, you take your iPhone too far into the kitchen, away from the router?the Audio Dock Air stutters more often, even, at times, in close proximity to the router and the sound source. Often, the stuttering seems to occur when the Wi-Fi network performs routine tasks at the same time?say, sending an email or loading a webpage while streaming music. Occasionally, the stream would halt altogether, and the system would need to be rebooted or the phone disconnected and reconnected to the network in order to re-pair the device with the speakers. The recent Klipsch Gallery G-17 Air ($549.99, 4 stars), another AirPlay speaker dock, also suffered from the same streaming issues, but an iOS update seems to have resolved those issues on the G-17 while they remain very present on the Audyssey dock.

When you plug your device into the aux input directly, the Audyssey system offers up a bass lover's dream, but as a streaming system, it's got some issues to iron out. If you'd rather go the Bluetooth route, check out the fantastic JBL OnBeat Xtreme ($499.95, 4.5 stars), which appears as an AirPlay device on iOS devices despite using Bluetooth, and the portable Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile Speaker ($299.95, 4 stars), both of them Editors' Choice winners for wireless speaker systems.
