Bank or Credit Union Versus Dealer

One key question is whether a car buyer should get a loan from a bank or credit union or from the dealer. Dealers often flash attractive rates on their television ads. The reality is that only people with the very best credit get the 0% financing offers shown on television. And even in those cases, the dealers will often offer a choice between 0% financing and cash back. A savvy negotiator will get the cash back and get a low rate from a bank or credit union.

In addition, many car buyers have gotten into trouble with dealer loans that are often sold or flipped or that come with onerous conditions in the fine print. While it may seem like the dealership is the easiest and most convenient place to finance your car, it makes sense to spend a day or two researching banks and credit unions to make sure you can?t get just as good an offer with no strings attached.
